The venue is not very close to me, as I live in Tuscany, but Tim accepted the conditions and booked the service.

Our appointment was in Como, the town overlooking the lake. The couple and their party arrived a little late; I introduced myself and we immediately hit it off, both with Tim and Suzanne and with their guest.

Tim and Suzanne chose one of the most charming venues in Italy, Villa del Balbianello, which can be reached by boat in about 30 minutes, as the Villa does not offer much parking space. We were lucky, October 11 turned out to be a lovely sunny day, with a temperature of around 70 F°

We reached the villa at around 3pm: the place is wonderful, a beautiful green hill surrounded by the lake on three sides. The Villa is perched on top of the property, two buildings linked by a covered patio. Three arches let the light in from both sides, a dreamlike place to celebrate a wedding!

We climbed up the hill a bit hurriedly, we were late and the time slot we had is not very long. Everything was ready in the patio and the priest was already welcoming everyone. It was my first Armenian wedding, so I had to concentrate hard as I didn’t know what the process was. I stayed as close as possible to the couple to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I took pictures of the guests without moving too much. I was lucky with the light, it was dim and soft and it let me use the same exposition as I moved around the scene. One of the best men leaned a cross against the couple and the priest was always very close to them, which made my work harder. But this is what reportage is all about, observing and recording what is happening.

The ceremony was really interesting: before the exchange of the rings, the couple wore the traditional crowns like in the Greek weddings, then they drank from a single chalice. The background music of the string quartet helped create the perfect ambiance. At the end of the ceremony, all the guests stood up cheering the newlyweds, and soon it was time to celebrate in the other building.

The guests made toast to Tim and Suzanne while I kept taking their pictures. The sun was lower now, and the time was right to take pictures of the newlyweds. A stroll in the park to find the best spots and the loveliest light to enhance the beauty of these two gorgeous people. They smiled a lot and I didn’t need to direct them.

The beauty around me was breathtaking, and twenty minutes were enough to have a good amount of pictures. The October light was striking, but the beauty of the lake in the backdrop and the villa with its park really made everything magical.

Our time was over, our boat was waiting for us, so we gathered up the guests and headed back to Como.
