Tuscany Wedding Venues

Tuscany is one of the Italian regions offering the best venues for your Tuscan wedding.

As a wedding photographer, I have been to several venues and I would like to take the opportunity of listing the ones I believe are the most prestigious. The Villa Medicea di Lilliano is an impressive historical palace built in the southern area of Florence in the municipality of Grassina. It dates back to the 11th century and it was built on the ruins of an ancient watch tower. In the 17th century it changed its name into Palazzo della Fattoria, Farm Palace, part of the project to develop the nearby Medicean villa Lappeggi.  Starting out as simple farmer’s house, in 1667 the Grand Duke of Tuscany expanded it and added fountains and gardens, thus turning it into a master’s palace.

Nowadays, the Villa Medicea di Lilliano is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in Florence. Another venue I like and recommend is Borgo Pignano. Located in the municipality of Volterra, in the Middle Ages this structure was a fortified hamlet. The estate of Borgo Pignano covers over 300 hectares partly farmed and partly forested. The splendid villa of the 18th century, a luxury residence deep in the green hills, is perfectly preserved and enriched by antique furnishing. The landscape is truly breathtaking, and it is no coincidence that Volterra offers the best sights in Tuscany. Borgo Pignano is perfect both for a wedding ceremony in its gardens or for your reception after a civil wedding in Volterra. Borgo Stomennano is yet another stunning venue dating back to 1254. The historical villa was built on the remains of a Medieval hamlet. The arrival to the villa is breathtaking with its cypress-lined avenue leading to the main entrance.

The main structure is the historical villa furnished with wonderful 18th century pieces and frescoed walls. Old farm houses and haylofts surround the villa and the grounds are deep in the green hills of Monteriggioni, a few minutes’ drive from Siena. The large grassy area before the villa make it the perfect venue for your outdoor wedding. Another perfect venue for your Tuscan wedding is the Castello di Meleto, a refined villa located in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti. Surrounded by vineyards, it’s the perfect venue for a wedding in the Chianti hills. The structure and the aspect of the castle are majestic thanks to the features of the military fortress the castle was in ancient times.
